James Fox sits down with Matt Ford to discuss his expanded documentary Moment of Contact: New Revelations of Alien Encounters — now streaming — and what happened when he brought the witnesses to Washington.
The film, released in late 2025, revisits the 1996 Varginha, Brazil UFO incident — often called "Brazil's Roswell" — and features a bombshell first: Dr. Italo Venturelli, the head neurosurgeon at Regional Hospital in Varginha, going on camera to describe a four-minute bedside encounter with a captured non-human being. After keeping his account private for 29 years, Venturelli's testimony has become the most discussed revelation in the case's history.
On January 20, 2026 — exactly 30 years after the Varginha encounter — Fox organized a landmark press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., bringing Brazilian witnesses including Venturelli to present evidence directly to members of Congress. Representatives Tim Burchett, Anna Paulina Luna, and Eric Burlison participated in a closed-door session with the witnesses five days earlier.
In this interview, Fox discusses the film, the Venturelli testimony, his nearly three decades investigating the Varginha case, the congressional response to the evidence, the ongoing effort to exhume the body of military police officer Marco Chereze — who died from a mysterious infection after capturing one of the beings — and what comes next for disclosure.
